Working Together
The benefits of music are indisputable, immediate, and lifelong. Hearing music as it was meant to be played, performed by experienced, professional musicians under the direction of a highly gifted conductor is a life-enhancing experience. But limited local resources can make it difficult for people who don’t live in a cultural center to attend live performances of classical music.
The Hanover Chamber Orchestra Society is committed to providing this important part of our culture to the people of New Hampshire, New England, and beyond. We are already working with schools, community groups, and other arts organizations to provide access.
Partnerships
Plymouth State University
In fall 2008, HCO begins a residency at Plymouth State University, holding rehearsals as well as performances in the Silver Center for the Arts. Students will work with Dr. Dan Perkins to study scores and repertoire, and will have the opportunity to observe professional musicians at work. This is the first orchestral residency of its kind at PSU. The Orchestra will be providing a much-needed component of study for these students, many of whom will go on to be music teachers in the New Hampshire schools.
Arts Alliance of Northern New Hampshire
HCO is working with AANNH to provide concerts in underserved areas of Northern New Hampshire.
Friends of the Arts
HCO and Friends of the Arts will work together to bus in school children to the Silver Center for the Arts for special performances.
Outreach
Large and small groups of musicians will perform for students in public schools. Students will be introduced to orchestral chamber repertoire, a variety of string instruments and how they are played, and professional musicians who can provide insight into their working lives.
